AI Engineer
Full-time
Akilaris was founded on the belief that the orbital economy only works if space stays safe. We build AI-powered space intelligence and collision avoidance that lets satellite operators act in minutes, not days. Joining Akilaris means joining a small, fast team in Bremen, Europe’s City of Space, where your work ships to real operators and directly protects real assets in orbit.
As AI Engineer you build the core of the product: the models and multi-agent pipelines that ingest conjunction data messages, assess risk and recommend, eventually execute, collision avoidance maneuvers. You own features from research spike to production deployment on Google Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship ML models for conjunction risk assessment (probability of collision, covariance handling, uncertainty quantification)
- Build multi-agent AI pipelines that combine orbital mechanics, risk models and LLM-based reasoning into operator-grade recommendations
- Own the full lifecycle: data ingestion (CDMs, TLEs, ephemerides), training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring
- Develop evaluation harnesses that prove model performance to safety-critical standards
- Optimize inference for cloud (Cloud Run/GPU) and, with the hardware team, for on-board deployment
- Work directly with satellite operators to turn feedback into shipped improvements
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace or related discipline
- 2+ years of experience building and deploying ML systems in production (or an exceptional research/project record)
- Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals (testing, CI, code review)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with orbital mechanics, astrodynamics or SGP4-class propagation
- Uncertainty quantification, Bayesian methods or probabilistic ML
- LLM/agent frameworks and retrieval pipelines in production
- TypeScript and modern cloud stacks (GCP preferred, Docker, IaC)
- Experience in safety-critical or regulated domains
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, iterative environment
Additional Requirements
- On-call rotation for production incidents may apply once operational services scale
- Some of our work touches dual-use technology governed by EU export-control regulations; candidates must be able to comply with applicable EU export-control requirements.
What We Offer
- Direct impact: your work ships to production and is used by real satellite operators
- Work side by side with the founders: short paths, fast decisions, real ownership
- Flexible hours built around lectures and exam phases (for student roles)
- Office in Bremen, Europe’s City of Space, in the heart of a dense aerospace ecosystem, with hybrid options
- A high-trust, high-velocity culture: we iterate like a launch company, not a corporation
- Clear growth path: many student roles convert into permanent positions
